Eden Medina, Cybernetic Revolutionaries: Technology and Politics in Allende's Chile

MIT Press, 2011

Between 1971 and 1973 Stafford Beer built a cybernetic management system for the Chilean economy: telex links from factories, a statistical modeling suite, and an operations room with seven chairs. It ended with the coup of September 1973.

Included because ambitions currently described as unprecedented were specified in detail fifty years ago, along with their governance problems. A useful corrective to the idea that real-time organizational control is new.
