Frederic Laloux, Reinventing Organizations

2014

Frederic Laloux published Reinventing Organizations in 2014. It sorts organizations into color-coded stages of consciousness, with Teal at the top: self-management, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose. Buurtzorg, Morning Star, and Patagonia appear as exemplars.

The canvas cites it as a belief system rather than evidence. The stage model is not falsifiable, and the exemplars were selected because they fit. It matters here because it supplied the vocabulary that many self-management adoptions were sold with, and the preconditions those adoptions skipped.
